Interests
With so much to do and experience in this world, it is hard to describe the things that I am interested in.
I find my work interesting. I am a software engineer who specializes in operating system software and device drivers. I currently write software for devices that run under the Windows and Linux operating systems. I also work in the application space with C++.
At home, I enjoy using the computer as a tool to get things done. I take digital photos mostly for Our Lady of the Lake church (our family parish) and I also shoot video for special events. I then edit the video footage and photos and producing DVDs and/or Blu-Ray discs for folks to enjoy. I sometimes teach religious education at our church for high school students. We have a wonderful program for all ages!
Video editing is very compute intensive and because of that, I do not buy stock PCs from any store. Instead, I purchase the components independently and assemble the system myself and install all of the software that I need. You might say that I am the family IT manager for both our home and for the extended family.
I have setup an extensive home network that allows for easy access to the Internet, a central printing location and watch video from virtually anywhere in the house through the WDTV box.
Recently, I started to become interested in game programming. You have probably seen the section of my page on the 2D Star Trek game that I have made available. I have started learning more about Direct-X in the hopes of making a 3D Star Trek game as well (see the VTTrek section).
When I am not at home, I enjoy the White Mounains of New Hampshire and various places in Maine. There are so many wonderful places to vacation in New England.
Before my eyesight deteriorated, I enjoyed playing and refereeing soccer, golfing and skiing. I am still able to golf periodically and hope that I can continue to do so.
I do enjoy playing console video games (Playstation 2 and Playstation 3). I mostly enjoy sports games (FIFA, Madden Football, Basketball, Hockey and Tiger Woods Golf) but I also play the Guitar Hero series of games as well.
